PROUDLY WE SERVED
Latino Veterans Oral History Video Project
Nominations Are Now Open
Proudly We Served is San Diego’s first-ever Latino Veterans Oral History Video Project, produced by the Latino Legacy Foundation (LLF) to preserve, celebrate, and share the stories of Latinos who shaped our region and our nation through service and leadership.
This inaugural digital initiative honors military veterans whose service to the United States of America reflects courage, sacrifice, and a deep commitment to country and community. Through professionally recorded video interviews, these veterans will share their personal stories of military service, as well as the lasting contributions they made after returning to civilian life.
We are inviting 24 nominated veterans to help LLF share their history. The project will feature veterans who represent a diverse range of military branches, as well as a variety of past military eras, ranks, assignments, and life experiences. Their collective voices will ensure that Latino military service and sacrifice are recognized, preserved, and passed on to future generations.
All nomination submissions will be thoughtfully reviewed by LLF’s Editorial Committee. Selection of nominees is planned to be finalized by the end of February, with in-person video interviews to follow in March.
Veterans selected to participate will be invited to share personal photographs and memorabilia to help enrich and contextualize their stories.
Proudly We Served will be permanently housed on the Latino Legacy Foundation’s website and made freely accessible to the public, with a community debut planned for June 2026, celebrating our country’s 250th anniversary.
The Foundation intends to continue this living archive by adding six veterans each year thereafter.
This is a voluntary, commemorative video project that will become part of a lasting public record honoring Latino residents from the San Diego region who honorably served our nation’s military.
